All change please…

Why is it when a new recruitment stakeholder comes into the business, they automatically assume all previous relationships are not worth s**t.

Yes, I understand people have their own recruiters they’ve worked with before, however, to completely refuse to meet the businesses incumbent sounds pig headed at best, unprofessional at worst.

Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, has been quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life”, however changing without taking into account all the options, sounds like a sure-fire way to damage not only your business but your own personal brand.

You don’t need to be Sherlock to realise that recently this happened to me, and what pains me is when the new stakeholder calls me in 3 months to help out, I will swallow and meet them as that’s what business is about, and to paraphrase Bert Lance (US budget administrator from the ’70s)

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

“That’s the trouble with newbies, fixing things that ain’t broken and not fixing things that are broken”!

Recruitment predictions for 2026

Predictions are funny things: most of them are either so vague they could apply to almost any year, or so dramatic they start to feel like astrology for agency leaders.   I sit in a slightly unusual position. My work takes me across the whole events sector and...
