It’s always darkest before the dawn.

“Working from home” is a bit of an oxymoron.

I prefer “home working” I know it sounds pedantic, however I feel there’s a difference and it’s something I’ve learnt from not being in an office for over 4 years.

There’s a step change you need to go through, and it took me longer than it should’ve to work it out.

You’re not at work anymore, you’re at home, working.

It’s now project work, not clocking in and out.

We all peak and trough at different times, me, I’m a morning guy but from about 4ish get cranky and then kick in again at 7pm.

So, I don’t do a lot of my brain taxing work in the afternoon or I’ll take a long lunch hour to recharge.

I might get up before the boy goes to school and do some work so that I can then take him and then muck about with the little un before work.

You see that’s the beauty of home working, don’t beat yourself up about what time you start, what you need to wear etc. just get what you need to get done and enjoy the experience.

You’ll be surprised how quick you finish tasks and trust me, although this situation has made people think more about remote working, the world won’t turn without an office environment so this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you.

Just find your own groove and what works for you.

“Fake it till you make it” is also a really bad piece of advice. And yet, it keeps popping up, often backed by social media influencers or regurgitated motivational sound bites from people like Simon Sinek or Richard Branson. It’s a lovely little phrase to slap on a...
