All lives matter.

Of course they do, but that’s missing the point

I still can’t get my head around why people don’t realise this is a movement to highlight injustice and oppression which has been going on for years.

It’s not to put down another demographic, it’s to promote equality or TBH equity given the circumstances.

Maybe to clear up any misunderstanding the hashtag should be;

#blacklivesmatterjustasmuchasyours

I truly hope those promoting all/white lives matter understand that however you try to position it, it 100% comes across as racist, full stop.

Educate yourself, try to imagine what it must be like to be judged before you’ve even opened your mouth.

To be systematically treated badly not because of what you might have done previously, but by the colour of your skin.

As a middle-class white man, I obviously have no clue about these struggles.

I can count on 2 hands the black or brown people I’ve worked with over the last 20 years and one hand those in a senior role.

It’s awful and my naivety and silence has made things worse.

My children have always been taught that everyone is equal, and no one deserves to be treated differently based on their colour, background or situation.

Now I’ll teach them that that’s not good enough, equality comes through education, equity comes through action.

I’m only speaking out about this subject now as I’ve learnt more in the last 6 weeks than I have in my entire life, and that’s not good enough.

I’m learning and working with groups who through action will change things, it’s later than it should be, but I will do my part.

My reach is wide, my voice is loud, however, my network in this area isn’t great, so if you feel I can add value to anything you’re doing (from someone who’s been in recruitment and events for over 20 years), then I’m all ears.

One person can’t change everything, but we can all change one thing.
