For example:
Do you describe a black person as black, person of colour, BAME, or something else ?
What I’ve learnt is apart from the obvious (they’re a person like anyone else), is the term BAME isn’t generally appreciated as it sort of lumps everyone who isn’t white together and each separate ethnicity, have their problems.
A black or brown person is happy with that description (if needed), in conversation or copy.
It’s time to stop being afraid to ask questions and educate ourselves, as ignorance or apathy is part of the problem too.
It’s a long road, but starting the journey is the hardest part.
